An increase in brain iron deposits has been described in Movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor. In clinical practice, visual qualitative evaluation of T2 and T2*-weighted images tends to be performed, but to avoid subjectivity and reduce the influence of confounding parameters such as the relaxation time T1 and B1+ field, fast acquisition approaches for quantitative evaluation are needed.

This line of research is being pursued in collaboration with Prof. Joaquim Ferreira (Instituto de Medicina Molecular), Dr. Sofia Reimão (Hospital de Santa Maria) and Prof. Joseph Hajnal (King’s College London).
